Description
Hum, well, this is not recent artwork, I did it a month or so. It was a comission about a real adaptation of a character called Hunter Falkland.I just do not want to show this artwork but ask a question. Despite I feel quite good painting pretty boys and all stuff related to that matter, somehow I feel this is not pro at all, or is not pleasant for people. I have no real base for telling that, but I just see so many works or beautiful women here that I don't know what to think. That's why I haven't posted more artwork lately.
So with this, I just want to know if people feels uncomfortable looking at this kind of stuff, or not. If that's the answer I won't post more of them.
And sorry for inconveniences

It's fantastic work, I love the robe, wish it had at least one fold in it to cross over a bird. The skin here is perfect...it has a texture! Thank you for that. I would put in some shadows into his hair near the top where the layers overlap. Top marks, make more

You do belong in the Elite Galleries imo..
And it's funny - I don't post often anymore because of the opposite fact. A lot of people seem to bash the "pretty women" paintings..
Makes me mad that we actually consider not posting just because of some likings or not likings. I am really happy to see more pieces of you any day

About your question:
As long as you are comfortable making the portraits like you do, keep doing them like this. That's fine.
But I think that, when one is as talented as you are at skill, you could get bored with doing 'just' portraits and stuff. Maybe you need an artistic challenge, deeper concepts, to give your paintings more meaning to your personal progress.
I am sure that when you set new goals, you have the potential to find what you are looking for.

starqueen> I think I understand the thing about the shadows... 9__9 Thanks for your encouragement.
Diane> You do gorgeous men too ^^
Kyena> I know what you mean, sometimes oneself wonders if submitting some artwork or not, for being an overused concept or rather not. At least it happens to me. But I feel I should post another kind or artwork, just need the inspiration to do so. Thanks very much ^^
Artoonator> I don't get bored of portraits, in fact they're pretty amusing for me. But you're right about the challenge, several times I've vondered that myself. The trick is to make a "goal", I just need one! Thanks for you suggestion.

You should not worry about if people will like the subject or not, because it is none of their business after all. You paint what you like, the way you want it and this is all that counts in the creation process.

Amazing portrait! Colors and mood are very well.

and to your question... for me it doesn't matter whether there's a women or a men on the picture... both can be very awesome art ^^

Wehehe... I know what you mean with this stuff about posting cuttie-gay-almost-elf-guys-portaits. That's my favorite subject too and I've heard thousands of complainings about that. I've tried not to do cuttie boys' portaits that often because of this, and because that thing about challenging oneself and such stuff that people has already talked about here (and outta here)... but when I can realize, I'm doing another cuttie guy's portait!!! I cannot avoid to do that, I'm addicted to that kind of characters. If that's your case, dont stop drawing them! Try to do another kind of stuff, but without lefting them aside. If no one likes it, well I'll be here to watch and save your pics on my favorites

Oh great Leanardo!!! ANOTHER painting with a religious theme!!!....do try and push yourself and expand your artistic horizons!!!
Congratulations Mr Vermeer you've managed yet another brightly lit interior!!!
Don't you ever get fed up with landscapes Mr Constable??...don't fancy trying something different....I hear sporting themes are quite popular this year!!
I'm really looking forward to the new Bridget Riley exhibition...but i do hope it's not more eye screwing patterned lines!!!
etc etc etc etc........
ALL artists return time and again to favourite themes.
If you are any good at what you do...and you are plainly very good....you will find an audience for your work no matter what the theme....and no matter how good you are there will always be folk who don't like what you do...In the end all you can do is remain true to your own interests and paint with honesty and integrity and to hell with what others think!

It should be fun, and aesthetically pleasing. In my opinion your art is both, and I think the world would be a worse place if you didn't share your paintings, you're very talented.
Awesome job on the shirt too, nice design.

Lilie> Thanks for your kind words. But sometimes I think what everyone thinks about art.
Mid> Yes, you're right
Kaduflyer> Never thought it that way! Your sarcasm made me smile, thanks for that! You're very right, there are many kind of audiences, we cannot expect to satisfy them all. And we always find artists who are specialist in some areas (but I wish mine would be wider). I'll try for it. Again, thanks a lot!
PaulJohns> Thanks very much : )

i personally found, in my own work, that the typical pretty girl pictures got the most votes/replies, and i think thats because the majority of voters are men? and they are visual creatures and they like chicks?

The birds on the cloth are great too, although it could be a better if it had just a little more thick wrinkles and the birds followed them.
The cross seems to be organic, not metallic. Straighter lines and some shadows could fix that. The hair, bottom of the nose and mouth are the weakest parts in my opinion. I think everything is overdetailed; some loosenes in the hair could make the eye go more to the face as a focal point. The intersection of the lips is too straight, which makes the (great) expression of the face a little weaker.
Overall, the image could use some darker shadows or edges to be a little stronger, but fantastic work, nevertheless
Sorry about my english, I wrote it in a rush
